Google News: There Is No News
At WebProNews, we try to write about important and interesting things, but groundbreaking developments simply don't occur every day. There are times, even, when it seems like there's nothing to report. Google News is apparently experiencing a similar problem - earlier today, the site was entirely devoid of stories.
Okay, so it's likely that the problem was the result of some glitch, and not of an extreme disinterest in the world's events, but that's sure what it looked like. WebProNews contributor Philipp Lenssen captured a screenshot of the empty main page; judge for yourself.
Google News appears to be back to normal now, but it remains to be seen if a permanent fix has been made. Barry Schwartz noted the problem, and observed that the site was only acting up intermittently. "It was returning 500 errors, graphics weren't loading, searches weren't working and so on," he wrote. "I waited a bit and it came back, but then it had more issues."
Hmmm . . . . Well, Google spokesperson Google spokeswoman Sonya Boralv told the Red Herring that "the service should be restored within the hour." And although the article doesn't mention the time at which the e-mail was sent, Boralv assured users, "We know how important Google News is to our users and are working as quickly as possible to resolve the problem."
So is Google News back at full strength? I can't say for sure, but the site has been working while I've been writing this article. And that means that I - and presumably the rest of the world, too - can stay up to date on those crazy Californian lawmakers.
