Yahoo Buzzes With 2006 Searches
Britney Spears dropped the "People's Elbow" on the WWE, clinching the top spot in Yahoo's list of searches for the year.
Search at the major engines takes place with millions of people making queries on a regular basis. At Yahoo, the emphasis of requests made on their search site reflected the continued public obsession with pop culture.
Britney Spears topped the list again, leading Yahoo Buzz staffer Lesley Beatty to quip on the Yahoo Search Blog: "She's topped our list of celebrity searches again making it five of the six years. You just can't hold back talent, people."
Pro wrestling's top property, the WWE, has a Britney element. On its website, there is a video of Britney's ex-husband trash-talking current WWE champ John Cena, as part of a promo for WWE's New Year's Eve program. We're going to guess Britney will watch Cena put a well-earned STFU on K-Fed on pay-per-view.
Singers dominated most of the rest of the top 10 search list Yahoo provided. Their personal lives proved fodder for lots of queries.
"Controversy rocked the lives of several of the stars on this year's Top Search list and The 2006 Yahoo! Top Searches illustrate that people are closely following celebrity happenings and scandals," said Jess Barron, Yahoo! Editor and Buzz Index Guru.
Here is the top ten list:
1. Britney Spears
2. WWE
3. Shakira
4. Jessica Simpson
5. Paris Hilton
6. American Idol
7. Beyonce Knowles
8. Chris Brown
9. Pamela Anderson
10. Lindsay Lohan
