Facebook More Popular Than Google
What's the most popular Web site for today's youth? There certainly is a large variety to consider. Would you be surprised if males and females ages 17 to 25 both shared the same favorite Web site?
An October 2006 top ten list from YouthTrends ranked Facebook as the most popular Web site for young adults 17 to 25. 52 percent of females said Facebook was their favorite site while 35 percent of males listed it as their favorite site.
MySpace was the second most popular site among females while Google was the second most popular among males. The survey focuses on the pop culture youth market and asks respondents to list their favorite choices in several entertainment categories.
Josh Weil of Youth Trends said," For the first time ever, Facebook was ranked number one among both men and women. Based on the findings, Facebook is more than likely to be their first visit of the day."
One other site that was in the top three for both genders was Google. It ranked third for women and second for men. After that there are more notable differences. Ranked seventh for men was the NFL site and for women it was MSN.
Sites that were new to the list were Wikipedia, which ranked eighth among men and eBaumsWorld, which ranked tenth among women.
With social networking sites being popular across generations it should not be surprising that Facebook has captured the youth audience, at least for now.
