Google Click-to-Call Post A Fake

The post on the Official Google blog has vanished, which likely means the purported breakup of Google and eBay's click to call deal probably has not disappeared.

It looks like someone had a slow Saturday night. The strangely-worded blog post we referenced has been removed from Google's blog.

Some followup appeared at the Google Blogoscoped blog, run by Philipp Lenssen. He posted a response to a question to Google about the strange blog entry:

Google replied with the following statement:

A bug in Blogger enabled an unauthorized user to make a fake post on the Google Blog claiming that we have discontinued our AdWords click-to-call test. The bug was fixed quickly and the post removed. Our click-to-call test is progressing on schedule and we are pleased with the results thus far.

It appears all is well again with Google, eBay, and click to call. Considering Google's desire to gain more in the mobile and local search markets, seeing them go backwards on the project even from just a research standpoint was odd to consider.

UPDATE! Google has confirmed the post was a hoax.
