SES 2006: Optimizing Your Feed
This is a continuation of an earlier offering about blog and RSS feed optimization. Because the information is dense, we thought it best to present it with another spray of bullets. Managing editor Mike McDonald is one heck of a note-taker.
 | Via Stephan Spencer, Founder and President of Netconcepts, LLC:
· When optimizing your feeds, use full text, not summaries, that are keyword rich.
· Use multiple feeds, divided by category.
· Create tag clouds and pages.
· Make use of available software plug-ins that help create tag clouds, related entries, next and previous post buttons.
· Build inbound links.
· Add Technorati tags to your posts (remember to claim your blog first).
· Get into other bloggers' blogrolls.
· Trackbacks and comments won't help link gain.
· "One of the best ways to get on peoples blog rolls is to actually meet them, so take opportunity to do so whenever possible."
· Optimize your title tags, which isn't as simple as stuffing keywords into it.
· Maintain legacy URLs when switching platforms.
· Rewrite URLs to contain keywords; use hyphens, not underscores.
· Be sure you use rel=nofollow on comments and feedback link
