YouTube Has Huge One-Week Growth Spurt
It's no secret anymore that YouTube is a gangbuster of an online property. Though not surprising, it is still enough to set one back on his heels to learn that traffic to the online video-sharing site spiked 75 percent in one week.
That sharp pain in your knee is perfectly natural.
Nielsen//NetRatings reports that weekly US Web traffic to YouTube jumped from 7.3 million unique visitors to 12.8 million unique visitors in the week ending July 16th alone.
Adding nearly 15 million to its monthly unique audience, YouTube was the fastest growing website between January and June 2006, increasing 297 percent.
In June, visitors to YouTube viewed 724 million webpages, an upswing of 515 percent since January, increasing their time on the site from 17 minutes on average to 28 minutes per visit.
As might be expected from a destination offering extensive visual stimulation, men are 20 percent more likely to have visited YouTube than women. But for the most part, they are not men, but boys.
Visitors between the ages of 12 and 17 are 1.5 times more likely than the average Web user to spend a half-hour of their day checking out the latest user-generated entertainment.
