Rocketboom Fights Attack Of Killer Tomatoes
She, that is, not Amanda Congdon, plopped herself down in the anchor chair in a catchers mask and pads. Let the tomato throwing begin. Andrew Baron sits in the corner, a frazzled and twitchy mess with nothing to say about the matter. Joanne Colan informs Amanda fans of where she can be found. Rocketboom 2.0, sans foam insulation concerns, launches.
"You're late," said the crowd, "but we think we like it."
After the tomato throwing was over, Colan took to the streets of New York City to emulate the man who traded up from a red paperclip to a house in Canada. With her own red paper clip, Colan traded first with a pirate named Commodore 64.
And that was the last interesting moment until her final trade for a titanium electro-magnetic necklace thingamabob. But it did, at least, have a few moments. The comments, at 173 and counting, are overall positive with a few (expected) dissenters.
It's difficult to compare Colan against Congdon, especially this early in the game. Baron acknowledged that the goal wasn't to recreate Rocketboom's star attraction, but to begin anew. Colan is certainly a fresh start with a British accent and the dry, understated British wit that comes with.
But perhaps what Colan lacks in animation (and curvature), she'll make up for with the smart subtleties the English are known for. The Web will be watching to see how she stacks up.
And what does Amanda have to say about it? Well, nothing yet. She's too busy talking about all the press she's getting.
