Sony Belittles The PC
Sony has introduced the world to its VAIO UX Micro PC, originally designed for lamp genies and harnessing nearly the same attributes: phenomenal cosmic powers, itty bitty living space. The fully functioning pocket-sized PC runs at the full-sized price of $1,800.
Think dorm room, technophile geek playboy showoff, or that girl you knew once with the creepy, tiny little hands. The new Micro PC weighs just over a pound and comes installed with Microsoft XP Professional, running on an Intel Core Solo Ultra Low Voltage CPU.
A little Lasik surgery and you'll be able to take in fully the 4.5-inch SVGA screen with XBRITE technology (1024 x 600 resolution) that slides up to expose the integrated keyboard beneath.
If you have sausage fingers, don't worry. You can use a stylus paired with Sony's VAIO touch launcher (button on the side) for quick access to frequently used functions like Internet access, email, games and music. It also has three USB ports to connect to a grownup's keyboard.
As one expects from his portable devices, it uses Sony's SmartWi technology so users can toggle between WWAN, LAN and Bluetooth connections. WLAN is also available for WiFi connections at home, office or hotspots; Bluetooth for peripherals (are you grunting like Tim Allen yet?); WWAN for access to Cingular's nationwide EDGE network, which allows users to connect to the Internet anywhere there is cellular coverage.
The UX model has two (yes, two) built-in cameras - one in front for VoIP communications and one on the back for taking photos, which means you can hold a video conference with your friends while secretly snapping shots of the hot young executive across the table.
Just remember, the number of deaths rises each year because of phrases that begin with "hey y'all check this out" and "oh, this is your husb…" It comes with a VGA adapter enabling it to connect to a projector for presentations on the phrases executive technophile playboy geeks should avoid.
For the senile James Bond in you, the Micro PC comes equipped with an integrated biometrics fingerprint sensor, so you do not have to remember passwords. Incorporated G-Sensor shock protection has been added to protect the unit's hard drive and reduce the risk of data loss should it be dropped after the hot young executive across the table catches you snapping pics of her.
In addition to the USB ports, the docking station, Ethernet, VGA, iLink IEEE-1394 interface and an AV output come with the unit. The VAIO UX Micro PC will be available in July.
