PostSecret Puts Hearts On Museum Display

The secret-on-a-postcard collection website has a show planned for St. Valentine's Day, featuring over one-hundred never before seen cards on display.

First some quick background about PostSecret. Anyone can send blogger Frank Warren a postcard that details some secret about themselves. Those postcards, ranging from ones with messages simply printed on them to highly detailed artwork on a card, get scanned onto the PostSecret site for everyone to see.

The site quickly drew hundreds of people mailing their secrets to Warren. The effort has spawned a book, titled "Postsecret: Extraordinary Confessions from Ordinary Lives." On Valentine's Day, PostSecret will go on display at Baltimore's American Visionary Art Museum.

Warren will sign copies of his book, and visitors can personally drop off their secrets during the show; a special translucent mailbox crafted by a Washington DC artist, Mark Jenkins, will be available to receive those secrets.

The currently posted secrets on the website all relate to a theme of love, both the good times, and the bad. Sadness figures in many themes, from unrequited love to not loving the one you're with. Warning - the romantically inclined may be disillusioned by much of the contents of the PostSecret blog, like the words on one card showing a sewn-together broken heart:

"this will be the last time, then. No more.
No more.
Be well.
Good bye."
