Time Warner Board Considers AOL's Suitors

Microsoft, Google, or even Yahoo could emerge as the frontrunner to partner with AOL in a deal worth billions to Time Warner.

Reports in the Financial Times said Time Warner would discuss the merits of Microsoft or Google as a partner for AOL today. A source close to the negotiations said that those two companies are the only ones engaged in serious discussions currently.

"But any decision to pursue a deal with one or the other is something that, at this stage, will not be decided for a few more weeks," the report quoted the source as saying.

AOL's saga with Time Warner has seen it go from high-flying Internet player, to being the deal responsible for driving Gerald Levin out of the CEO's office at Time Warner. The merger hurt Time Warner so much that it dropped the AOL from its name.

That shame has given way to pride as new CEO Richard Parsons will probably get Google or Microsoft to not only pay upward of $5 billion, but maybe squeeze a bit of a premium out of the deal.
