Ask.com proudly announced that it would release its new blog search engine. And not just any engine, but a "world-class blog search, which we don't think exists now', said Mark Fletcher, CEO of Bloglines (a division of AskJeeves.). Well, he was only off by a year. It's now available.
The company finally rolled out its new blog search engine. Ask.com already owns the most popular stand-alone web based feed reader, Bloglines.
Ask.com's CEO is taking the launch and the product very seriously.
Two separate user interfaces are available. It's on the Ask.com home page and on Bloglines. The interfaces look slightly different, but the search engines are the same.
Results from a search can be obtained by using a specific period of time and can be sorted by relevance, date or popularity, according to TechCrunch.
A blog with more links and subscribers on Bloglines has more relevance than other blogs. Citations, links and subscriber count will be some of the sources that determine popularity.
Searches can use "posts", "news" or "feeds" as categories. For example, the news option searches 7,000 pre-approved blog and news sites.
Other new features include feeds related to the query are listed on the sidebar as well as RSS info for subscriptions. Search results also have more options: a binoculars graphic, a "save" feature, subscribe and "Post To".
A key feature is a + button next to each result. When you click on that button, you get the full post with the original formatting.
Each result also has a "more info" link that shows the number of bloglines subscribers for that blog and any citations for that post.
