Firefox Burnin’ Up The Charts
Firefox was pleased to read they continue to increase their market share slowly but surely in the web browser market. While Internet Explorer (IE) by Microsoft remains the proverbial leviathan, Firefox does show promise.
NetApplications.com, based out of Aliso Viejo in California released it's monthly marketing update and showed that Firefox's marketshare was up to a lean 8.71% in June over May's 8% even. Microsoft lost ground by about the same margin as Firefox increased. Microsoft went from 87.23% to 86.56%.
This does bode quite well for Mozilla's Firefox as they steadily increase their marketshare against Microsoft. Firefox usually increases in small increments, generally not even a full point but it remains a consistent increase and it is against Microsoft. A couple of more months and Firefox will control a full 10% of the market.
Other players in the game include Apple's Safari with 1.93% and AOL's Netscape at 1.55% and Opera coming at .59%. These include the top 5 but by far, Firefox shows the most promise and the greatest challenge to Microsoft, who knocked down and obliterated Netscape's top slot some years ago.
Netapplications.com makes applications for measuring web site usage. The study covers more than 40,000 website for its information.
