AOL Preps Ticketing Site Debut

A partnership with ticket resellers TicketsNow and Stubhub will form the core of AOLTicketMarketplace.com.

AOL has had a relationship with TicketMaster for some time, as shown by its AOLTickets web site. That deal may be ready to change, in the wake of AOL's deals with StubHub and TicketsNow.

A Reuters article notes how AOL has been a secondary seller of event tickets, but not under a formal web presence. The AOL Ticket Marketplace site, which had not went live as of press time, will consolidate those sites' offerings under one umbrella.

TicketsNow calls itself a secondary market for ticket sales; StubHub works more like a matchmaker for ticket buyers and sellers. Neither web site mentions the current AOL deal yet. But a StubHub press release from June 2004 quotes AOL's Geno Yoham, executive director for AOL Tickets, discussing a deal with StubHub at that time.

Links from AOL CityGuides to buy and sell tickets point to StubHub's web site, while another link to find more hard-to-get tickets goes to Tickets Now. With AOL moving from subscription-based to portal advertising model, it seems odd that AOL doesn't have its name appear more prominently on the two sites. Perhaps that will change when the Ticket Marketplace site goes live.
