This says a lot about the PR teams working for the world's top companies. US media research company Delahaye released a survey listing the corporations who enjoyed the most positive media coverage. Microsoft topped the list, followed by Wal-Mart.

Determined by the number of favorable stories a company receives, the quarterly index of corporate rankings, the surveyors said Microsoft enjoyed an upswing of positive press lately due to ""news of upward economic performance, a strong product pipeline and corporate partnerships."

The top 10 list is as follows:
1. Microsoft Corp.
2. Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
3. Time Warner Inc.
4. General Motors Corp.
5. Walt Disney Co.
6. Intel Corp.
7. Verizon Communications Inc.
8. Boeing Co.
9. Goldman Sachs Group Inc.
10. General Electric Co.

"This quarter's index results reinforce the dual reality -- and difficulty -- of working to maintain a positive corporate image while having to operate openly under the lens of the media," Mark Weiner, president of Delahaye said. He asks no one makes jokes about his name.

"For example, news coverage of GM's weak financial performance, while negative, was outweighed by positive news about the company's wildly successful price promotions," he continued.

While this may be true in that Microsoft enjoys enormous favor by the media, other reports have shown while Microsoft is the most written about on the Internet, it is actually Google and Apple that rule blog post readership.
