Apple ITunes User Rewarded For Faith
The iTunes Music Store sold its 500 millionth song on July 17th, and will award its grand prize.
Amy Greer, an iTunes user from Lafayette, Indiana, downloaded Faith Hill's "Mississippi Girl" from the online music site. That proved to be a rewarding purchase.
As Apple neared the half-billion mark in songs sold, the Cupertino-based company announced a contest. Users who downloaded every 100,000th song starting at 480,100,000 received an iPod Mini and a gift card worth 50 free iTunes downloads.
But Ms. Greer scored big with her download. She will receive ten iPods of her choice from Apple's iconic media player line. Each of those iPods will come with a 50 song gift card.
An additional gift card will entitle Ms. Greer to 10,000 downloads from iTunes. She will also receive four tickets and a trip to see Coldplay at a date during their summer tour. Backstage passes will be included as part of the concert package.
According to Apple's web site, iTunes came online in April 2003 for the Mac platform. Windows support became available in October of that year. A year after the April launch, Apple had sold 70 million songs through the online music store.
No word yet on whether Apple would repeat this promotion for the 1 billionth song milestone.
