Firefox 1.0.5 became available yesterday, providing several security updates to the browser.

The latest update to Firefox fixes 12 security issues. Users of Firefox or Mozilla should visit the site to obtain the update.

The Mozilla Foundation rated two of the twelve issues as Critical. One issue fixes the way media players like QuickTime or Flash open URLs in the default browser window. The other Critical issue involved potential code execution by shared function objects.

Four other fixes had severity ratings of High, while three others, including a frame injection fix that was bypassed in Firefox 1.0.3 and Mozilla 1.7.7, were rated Moderate.

Versions for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems have been provided, and can be found online.

Firefox was last updated on May 11, in response to the disclosure of three significant security flaws in version 1.0.3. Mozilla engineers do not have any reports of exploits in the wild currently.

Mozilla actively encourages outside developers to seek out and report critical bugs in its software. The bug bounty offers $500 and a Mozilla t-shirt to those who find original unreported flaws capable of being exploited remotely.
