Microsoft Schedules CRM 3.0 Release
An update to its customer relationship manager product will be available to current CRM 1.2 customers later this year.
New prospective customers will have to wait until 2006 for the CRM 3.0 release, though. Microsoft will make 3.0 available in its usual on-site installation form, or customers can choose a subscription-based hosted model instead.
The company has one new module to better automate and manage such items as lists and campaigns. Another new module will help manage complex scheduling tasks related to specific individuals, skills, and resources.
Microsoft has updated the product's look and feel to better resemble its signature productivity suite, Office, and its Outlook e-mail client. CRM 3.0 integrates with those products, and its data can be moved into Excel for advanced report creation and manipulation.
"Microsoft CRM 3.0 provides exactly what our customers and partners need: a simple user experience based on Office and Outlook, a flexible CRM platform that easily adapts to fit each business, and fast implementations that can result in a low TCO," said Brad Wilson, general manager of Microsoft CRM.
