EA, Qualcomm Team On Cellphone Games
Look for more of EA's games to begin appearing on cellphones as the company announces a partnership with Qualcomm.
Qualcomm will bring the developer kits. EA will bring Harry Potter and John Madden. Together, the two firms will bring more of Electronic Arts' extensive game library to the small screen.
The partnership should yield between 15 to 20 games this year, according to an EA spokesperson. EA will work with Qualcomm's Brew unit, the company's mobile device development section.
Games are the third most popular mobile phone application, after calls and text messaging, says researcher In-Stat MDR. And big names like Disney, Yahoo, and THQ have invested in developing games for mobile phones, according to the LA Times.
Brew's annual conference is taking place this week in San Diego. The conference allows various members of the wireless community to meet and exchange ideas, and to debut new technologies.
