Xbox 360 Talks A Good Game
A familiar part of original Xbox games like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six will be in the next-generation game console.
When the Xbox 360 debuts this November from console and software maker Microsoft, it will include speech recognition technology from Fonix. This software has been part of the original Xbox.
"By incorporating Fonix's speech recognition technology into our Xbox 360 development kit, game developers can give players a fun and natural way of interacting with their games," says Brian Schmidt, Program Manager, Audio and Voice Technologies, Microsoft.
The expanded scope of the developer kit for the Xbox 360 means game makers can incorporate features not seen, or heard, before in their products. The continued relationship between Microsoft and Fonix should yield some more advanced voice-recognition game controls and in-game interaction.
By offering voice command options, players of games like several in the Tom Clancy series or Delta Force can be more immersed in those games. The practice of issuing commands makes those games more like the real thing.
