Good, Good, Good, Cingular Email
In an effort to grab some market share from Research In Motion's BlackBerry service, Good Technologies Inc. has stopped producing mobile devices and has started making software for Cingular Wireless.
Cingular Wireless, jointly owned by SBC Communications Inc. and BellSouth Corp. will offer businesses always-on email access with GoodLink's behind-the-firewall server.
The software will eliminate the need for companies to install and maintain their own server software, as Good's new wares will work in conjunction with Microsoft Exchange. This provides instantaneous email service for personal accounts, accessible from mobile devices and wireless enabled notebook computers.
Formerly, approved users had to link to the company server and pass through firewall protection, a slower and more complicated maneuver. With the new service, company email users can access their personal accounts in real-time from anywhere without going through the difficult channels.
The service will be offered from Cingular at a discount to start. After the purchase of a $1500 Starter Pak and a one-time $99 per user licensing fee, the service will run $45 a month for unlimited usage.
"Together, Cingular and Good will accelerate enterprise adoption of wireless messaging by simplifying the purchase and support process for customers, and by offering a broad choice of industry standards-based handhelds and wireless applications," Danny Shader, Good's CEO.
