Internet Perv Arrested
After her 14-year-old daughter had left the computer chair empty, an Iowa woman noticed a private message with some rather disturbing content. A 36-year-old New Jersey man was offering to pay the teenage girl for sex.
Mom called the authorities straightaway and the police helped her to set up a sting operation where Mom would pose as the daughter through Internet chat. Richard H. Johanson of Short Hills, NJ., agreed to travel to the town of Garner to meet her.
The Hancock County sheriff's office set up a public meeting with the would-be offender, using the young girl as bait. Johanson tried to persuade her to leave with him, an offer that she refused. Once Johanson realized the jig was up, he tried to run but was eventually arrested and booked into Hancock County Jail.
He has been charged in Iowa for third-degree sexual abuse and enticing away a minor. If convicted, Johanson could face up to 12 years in prison.
