AMD Hopes Geode Strikes The Mother Lode Among Gadgets
A new processor from the chipmaker offers desktop-style computing on mobile and embedded platforms.
The Austin-based chipmaker touts its new Geode LX 800@0.9 chip's x86 architecture and low power consumption as a benefit to consumers as a new range of products are prepared for market.
AMD cites HDTVs, point of sale kiosks, and mobile multimedia devices as being likely candidates for the Geode processor. The chip will support Windows XP and XP embedded, a feature lauded by Microsoft.
Jane Gilson, director of marketing for the Mobile and Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft Corp, said: "Together, the flexibility of Windows and AMD Geode processors are enabling developers to create a range of new and innovative low-power, high-performance devices."
AMD will display the Geode and related solutions during a trade show in Taipei later this month.
