AIM instant messaging will be integrated into the Turner Broadcasting game network product.

Turner Broadcasting introduces GameTap, a broadband entertainment network, at E3 today.

Set for a fall 2005 release, GameTap will give gamers access to on-demand games plus original programming from their broadband-connected PCs.

In a further three-year agreement with AOL, GameTap will feature the AIM instant messaging service, along with support for ICQ. A customized version of the popular AIM client will allow gamers to do real-time chat within and outside of the GameTap network.

GameTap's Promise

The GameTap service will be subscription-based and offer all-you-can-play gaming. Turner has licensed 1,000 games from 17 publishers, and will debut in the fall with 300 of those titles, from Pong, Pac-Man
and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, to Sonic and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. New titles will be added each week.

Other original programming for the network will provide more information on upcoming games, with coming-attraction features and behind-the-scenes looks at games and their makers.

Users will be able to obtain the GameTap software and run it on up to two home computers per subscription. Games download to the computer across the network, making the play experience latency-free.

Content from the GameTap network will support keyboard and mouse play, as well as most USB peripherals.
