New Sober Variant Clogging E-mail
Sober.Q generates hate mail in German and English, in the wake of recent World War II observances.
This variant of the Sober worm behaves like others before it, infecting a machine and mass mailing itself to as many other machines as it can. Hundreds of thousands of messages have been circulating online.
While most spam seen by users tends to promote products or services, this variant seems to only deliver propaganda. A further concern of security experts comes from observances of the new work reinfecting machines hit by the Sober.P variant.
If this is happening, according to a Cnet News.com article, it could mean the virus writer has remote control over a large network of machines. And that could continue to be used as a platform to launch even more attacks.
As always, users should ensure their anti-virus software has been updated with the most current signature files available.
