Warning – IPod Contents Under Pressure
The iPod is a very friendly piece of hardware. Just don't get it wet. And especially don't take a screwdriver to it.
In the Sydney Morning Herald, an account of one teenage boy's encounter provides a cautionary tale to iPod users everywhere.
The young man's iPod accidentally went through the wash one day. Water got into the unit and made it less user-friendly than normal.
Like many men, he went with his natural instincts and tried to fix the iPod himself. And like many men, he soon regretted his action.
"It wasn't working, the young fellow tried to undo it or fix it with a screwdriver and at that stage there was an explosion, or more of a pop. It was more smoke than fire but it did leave a burn mark on the cover," said Country Fire Authority spokesman Peter Philp.
The boy required treatment from paramedics after inhaling fumes coming from the opened-up iPod caused him breathing difficulties. He quickly recovered.
Fire investigators removed the iPod for further study.
