IPsec Security Flaw Found
The safety of virtual private networks using IPSec encryption and tunneling comes into question.
Per the findings of the British NISSC, the US Computer Emergency Response Team released a vulnerability advisory on the IP Security protocol suite.
IPsec provides the encryption to packets traveling along VPN tunnels, and VPN has widespread use by corporate users. That information, in certain circumstances and related to the success of certain attacks, could yield a plaintext version of the encrypted information in the packet.
The NISSC has provided solutions to the vulnerability, which they and CERT rate as high.
Users of commercial VPN packages should check with their providers for updates.
