Bill Gates Says IPods Are Doomed

Bill Gates continues his verbal assault on Apple and its iPod in the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. This just one of many in a period of attacks Gates has made against his old business rival the he himself owns a pretty good chunk of.

"As good as Apple may be, I don't believe the success of the iPod is sustainable in the long run," Gates told the Zeitung. "You can make parallels with computers: Apple was very strong in this field before, with its Macintosh and its graphics user interface -- like the iPod today -- and then lost its position."

Gates said he thought some combination of a cell phone with MP3 capabilities will be the wave of the future and he also took the opportunity to plug the Windows Mobile 5.0. Gates said he would place his money on the mobile phone market.

This comes on the wave mobile phones and PDAs coming with MP3 capabilities, many of which are coming with hard drives as well. There's also been recent speculation that Apple and Motorola have been working the kinks out of a cell phone with music capabilities although nothing has been seen yet.
