Yahoo To Include Music Search With Yahoo Music Unlimited
Today, Yahoo launched a paid music subscription service, which many feel targets iTunes, Napster, and RealNetworks (among others). Because of the way Yahoo entered the market (undercuts, options not available with other services), it's safe to say Yahoo has lofty goals for their service.
Not only does Yahoo Music Unlimited boast cheaper membership and purchase prices than the competition, but they are planning on integrating a search service that may well set them apart from the rest, perhaps even iTunes.
By including the Yahoo Music Engine, which promises to return comprehensive results of artists queried and integrating that into their song buying capabilities, Yahoo's completed music service will, in all likelihood, be second to none. When you consider Yahoo's commitment to search, integration of this kind may give Yahoo a decided advantage when it comes to finding and acquiring that long lost golden oldie you've been dying to hear.
Aside: yesterday, I wrote an article forecasting whether or not Yahoo's then unlaunched service would be a search engine like mp3.com or an actual online music store. The answer is both, apparently.
