Gamers Are Better At Their Jobs
They're not stupid, they're not expendable, and they're not going away, unless it's quitting time and a new game just released today.
The Mercury News discussed gamers in the working world, and found they tend to have exceptional business skills.
A human resources executive with Charles Schwab lauded gamers. "The people who play games are into technology, can handle more information, can synthesize more complex data, solve operational design problems, lead change and bring organizations through change," said Chip Luman.
Don't dismiss him as a solitary voice. Professionals in other occupations have similar observations. One study completed at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York found that surgeons who game were less likely to make mistakes in the operating suite.
"I'm extremely interested in scientific validation of gaming for good," said Dr. James Rosser, director of the Advanced Medical Technology Institute at Beth Israel who oversaw the study.
Most of the games cited in studies have been mainstream hits, like "The Sims," and others have been ones containing controversial content.
Perhaps as more studies report similar findings, the usual complaints from well-meaning but misinformed groups will be more easily refuted.
