ITunes Gains More Continental Flair
More iTunes Music Stores opened in four European countries as the market leader in online music sales expands.
Nineteen countries now have iTunes storefronts, as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland join the iTunes fold.
Previous European iTunes stores opened in Great Britain, France, and Germany. Coupled with the enormous popularity of the iPod music player, the stores have been a tremendous success for Apple Computer.
An executive with Apple notes that iTunes now sells over 500 million songs per year. Said Eddy Cue, Apple vice president of Applications: "The iTunes Music Store has revolutionized the way we discover and enjoy music, and is now selling more than half a billion songs per year."
Content for the iTunes Music Stores comes from all four major music labels, as well as thousands of independent labels. Downloadable songs have become this generation's version of the old vinyl 45 RPM single.
