AOL Goes Blogging
The online service provider opens up AOL Journals to users of its AIM instant messenger service.
They are called ‘aim blogs' and are part of the AOL Journals service. A blog could be called a simple web log of someone's thoughts or opinions.
But these blogs include an extra feature for mobile users. An AIM client can send text updates to a blog by texting screenname ‘AOL Journals'.
Competition for new blog users has heated up between the various online portal presences. Google acquired Blogger from Pyra. Microsoft set up MSN Spaces, and Yahoo has its 360 service in beta testing.
AOL has included the ability to syndicate a blog via Really Simple Syndication (RSS) as well. This lets people with a RSS reader keep track of your blog as new entries appear there.
Blogs have become part of modern culture. When CBS News aired a story questioning President George Bush's Air National Guard service, bloggers were instrumental in showing the evidence was faked. Dan Rather resigned and a couple of CBS News staffers lost their jobs as well.
AIM users can find more information at the AIM web site.
