Your Taxi Recommends Fine Dining
A division of Targeted Media Partners will place interactive touch screens in cabs in three cities.
Residents of San Francisco, Boston, and Chicago may have an electronic companion in the back of the next taxi they hail.
Interactive Taxi will provide touch screens and wirelessly networked flash drives for 850 cabs in three cities as a test of the service.
News, sports scores, weather, movie times, and restaurant listings will be among the information provided to passengers via the screens. Advertising will figure as well, and will drive the profitability of the system.
As an example of its advertising potential, Interactive Taxi cites a CSI promotion done on behalf of Viacom-owned CBS. 30 and 60 second promos were run on cab screens in New York and Chicago.
The touch screens will retrieve data from 2gb flash drives running an embedded version of Windows XP in the cabs. Flash drives won't suffer from the bumps of a typical city trip as a standard disk drive would.
