Yahoo Bolsters News At Cnet’s Expense
Yahoo has hired Patrick Houston, formerly editor in chief at Cnet Networks, to run its technology news site.
Mr. Houston's hiring comes in the wake of Yahoo's November pickup of Wall Street Journal Online editor Neil Budde.
The moves indicate an interest by Yahoo to be more of an original news site instead of just aggregating content from other providers.
Several columnists work for Yahoo on its sports site already, some of who are former professional athletes.
Yahoo's news site has made an impact with Nielsen/NetRatings. The research firm has noted several months where more news visitors hit Yahoo's site than any other.
