Wireless Security Goes Open Source
Developer's kit from chipmaker Atheros Communications to offer users an easily implemented wireless LAN security setup.
The company's JumpStart for Wireless security configuration software has been made available on an open-source basis.
As an added bonus, JumpStart will work on chipsets besides the company's. Intel Centrino, Broadcom, and Marvell have been listed as working with the software.
"We're taking aggressive steps to make our secure configuration software available on an open source basis because it benefits the wireless LAN industry as a whole and therefore helps Atheros and our customers," said Craig Barratt, president and chief executive officer of Atheros Communications.
The company plans to make source code, licenses, and supporting materials available via a presence on SourceForge.net, though at press time they had not done so yet.
