Buying Or Just Browsing Online
Online shoppers aren't impulsive buyers, according to a study of 8 million consumers and their Internet buying habits.
According to the study by ScanAlert, over a third of shoppers took 12 or more hours to buy what they had browsed.
Online retailers driven to distraction by visitors who fill and then abandon shopping carts should take heart.
"Retailers must understand, however, that almost half of all online purchases are from shoppers who leave a site after the first visit, and return -- even days later -- to buy," said the report's author, Ken Leonard, CEO of ScanAlert. "
The survey recommends online retailers make comparison shoppers comfortable, and focus more on site abandonment and less on shopping cart abandonment.
