Shuttle Launch Delay Not A Problem
Concerns over potential issues with ice forming on the shuttle enough to merit prudent rescheduling of mission.
"We'll be ready to fly when the Space Shuttle is ready," said Mission Commander Eileen Collins.
NASA has moved the launch window to July 13 through the 31st.
The delay allows NASA extra time to work on the external fuel tank of the shuttle.
"The longer you prepare for something, the better it's going to be. We want this mission to be very, very successful," said Cmdr. Collins.
NASA administration has shown it wants to fully ensure the agency's Return to Flight operates as safely as possible.
"This is consistent with our overall approach to the STS-114 mission, which is that we're going to return to flight, we're not going to rush to flight," NASA Administrator Michael Griffin said at a morning news conference at NASA Headquarters.
"Our intent with this effort is to make certain we are as safe as we know how to be before we launch the Space Shuttle and its crew. We want it to be right."
