Oracle Entering Open Source Testing Space
Potential move toward testing and certification of open source software puts Oracle up against Kim Polese's SpikeSource.
The Software 2005 conference in Santa Clara yielded a bit of information from Oracle's president about a potential future direction.
"[Customers] are bogged down by the dependencies between applications. Add a patch in Linux and five other things break. People ask: 'Why can't you tell me what the dependencies are?'
"We are large enough now and in enough different areas to do something about it. We see that as the next opportunity," said Charles Phillips.
The open source testing and certification space was sure to be filled by startup SpikeSource, headed by former Marimba president/CEO Kim Polese, and other companies. Ms. Polese also spoke to the collected CEOs at the conference yesterday.
