BlackBerry Popularity Leads To Fierce Competition
Success breeds challengers, as developments from Microsoft, Nokia, and Samsung begin to erode RIM's dominance.
Research In Motion has surfed a wave of some 2.5 million BlackBerry users to a $12+ billion USD market value. Big players in the technology market want a taste of BlackBerry's pie too.
Microsoft's newest version of Exchange includes a wireless e-mail feature for free. Given the tens of thousands of Exchange/Outlook e-mail users in the US and elsewhere, a lot more people now can have wireless e-mail access without purchasing a BlackBerry.
Cellphone companies Motorola and others still have to overcome the BlackBerry's most significant hardware advantage: the keyboard. BlackBerry's little keyboard makes it much easier to compose e-mail than the multiple key presses needed on a typical cellphone.
