E-Voting Gets A Test Down Under
Australian state Victoria may use electronic voting devices as soon as next year, in a controlled test.
The Victorian Election Commission may test electronic voting for disabled and non-English speaking voters at six supercenters, according to Australian IT.
Extending electronic voting to the general populace will not happen right away. "This is not about introducing wide-scale electronic voting at the next state election," spokesman Doug Beecroft said.
Persistent issues with reliability and and security in US tests of e-voting have not gone unnoticed. Australia mostly uses paper-based voting, and counts votes electronically. There had been "very few calls for change" to the current paper voting system, said Mr. Beecroft.
