Increased MP3 Player Sales Continue
With iPod's enormous influence setting the table, the amount of portable mp3 players sold continues to skyrocket.
According to a report conducted by iSuppli, a marketing research company, 2004 saw shipments for mp3 players increased 116% from the previous year. Apple's widely successful iPod seems to be the catalyst for the sales figure improvements.
Not only did sales increase in 2004, but experts also expect the trend to continue during 2005, for which a 36% increase is expected. The report also revealed shipments of mp3 players should quadruple by 2009 to an estimated 132 million units.

The market for digital music players took off in 2004 as shipments rose 116 percent in response to the overwhelming success of Apple's Latest News about Apple iPod. MP3 player shipments were slated to rise from 36.8 million to 57.7 million in 2005, iSuppli said.
The highest rate of growth will come from devices that use tiny hard drives to store large amount of data as opposed to cheap flash-memory devices, which have a more limited capacity, the research said.
The shipments of the hard drive-based players will grow at an annual rate of 41.8 percent from 2004 to 2009, iSuppli predicted with shipments rising to 56.2 million units in 2009, up from 9.8 million in 2004. Receive
