Yesterday, computer giant Dell introduced their new Latitude line of notebook computers, which targets the business sector from small businesses up to the State and Local government level.

Besides offering newer technology and faster performing notebooks, the Latitude line also introduces Dell's Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.1), a security-based component designed to provide protection and data encryption.

According to The Register, "the system uses passwords and data on the smart card to decrypt data on the fly. All information stored on the hard drive is encrypted and can be explicitly tied to a given machine to prevent protected information being unlocked on a compromised computer."

Dell's new Latitude line also uses Intel Centrino's Sonoma update for internal processing.

Alex Gruzen, senior vice president of Dell's Product Group, said, "These Latitude notebooks reflect Dell's unique ability to incorporate direct customer feedback into every product. We have combined powerful new technologies such as PCI Express and DDR2 memory with outstanding performance, usability and reliability that our customers demand. We continue to listen to our customers to build and deliver the best technology and value."

The following is a description of the different Latitude notebooks offered by Dell:

About the Latitude D410
With a new black and silver chassis and a starting price of $1,677, the 3.83-pound Latitude D410 continues to deliver uncompromising performance for an ultraportable notebook computer. With the addition of an optional nine-cell extended battery, users can experience nearly all-day computing without recharging.

About the Latitude D610
With a starting weight of 4.67 pounds and starting price of $1,384, the Latitude D610 is designed for users who require flexibility and mobility in a durable, thin-and-light package. Customers can build configurations to fit their specific needs, whether it's robust 3D graphics performance, or extended battery life.

About the Latitude D810
The Latitude D810 delivers high-end performance for the power-hungry users and features an UltraSharp 15.4-inch wide-aspect display and leading-edge graphics with up to 128MB of dedicated memory. Slightly smaller and lighter than its predecessor, the Latitude D810 has a starting weight of 6.49 pounds and a starting price of $1,549.
