Google Going After Dark Fiber
CNET News.com reports that Google is making a push for Dark Fiber. A recent job posting states ...
"Google is looking for Strategic Negotiator candidates with experience in...(i)dentification, selection, and negotiation of dark fiber contracts both in metropolitan areas and over long distances as part of development of a global backbone network,"
For those who do not know, Dark fiber is the fiber optic cabling that has already been laid (not unlike telephone or cable lines), but is not being used, usually due to very high cost of operations.
Let the consipiracy theorists go nuts with this one. You might assume that Google is going to be creating a new, or added, massive network similar to the Internet. If so, that's a lot of information that Google would then control.
"Do no evil," if that's still the mantra, it's easy to wonder how controlling another massive network similar to the Internet could be run without great temptation for abuse or misuse. Receive
