Late Online Holiday Shopping Increases
Because of improved shipping and customer service capabilities, late shoppers took the Internet in record numbers, price-wise, this holiday season. Reports have the amount of money spent shopping online for the week ending December 19th was up 57% from last year's numbers.
InternetRetailer.com indicates "E-sales took off like a rocket for the week ending last Sunday (Dec. 19), reaching $2.45 billion, up 57% from the corresponding week a year ago…" A report issued by comScore Networks revealed that overall online shopping revenue increased by 26% from last year as well. During 2004, shoppers spent $64.2 billion dollars online, as opposed to $49.4 billion in 2003.
However, InternetRetailer also pointed out that overall retail sales for the same week have fallen by 5.9%.
