GoHook has developed a database of nearly 600,000 PDF documents targeted at the legal, educational, librarian and government audiences.

Using a familiar Web search engine interface, end users search for documents in PDF (Portable Document Format), HTML or ubiquitous ASCII text.

"We give the user four options," says Robert Keller, a Partner at GoHook. "Other sites may link to PDF documents, but we assure the availability and ease of search. We go beyond other search engines." In addition to the link, GoHook stores the converted HTML, ASCII text and PDF files, so the user can always retrieve their information. "Because all the links work, the user's linked to all documents, even if the original site is down or defunct."

GoHook's search interface is familiar and intuitive. Users will instantly recognize the screen layout and site navigation.

The GoHook site visitor has four click-through options:

  • Link to Original. A PDF link to the source document on the original site. PDF files require Adobe Acrobat® Reader.

  • Link to HTML. GoHook converts all PDF documents to HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) documents, viewable with any Internet browser.

  • Link to Text. GoHook also converts PDF documents to simple ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange), viewable with any text editor, such as NotePad or Microsoft Word.

  • Link to PDF. GoHook's site archives the original document for years. Most search engines are contemporary. That is, they list only currently-available documents on active Websites. GoHook has the document, even if the original is gone.

  • The GoHook Website adds over 10,000 documents per week and forecasts one million documents in early 2005.

"The free site," Keller says, "showcases our suite of proprietary technologies and Microsoft .NET experience. We can implement these archive-retrieve features in a law office, library or other large-volume application with PDFs, HTMLs and Microsoft Office® documents." GoHook's search, retrieval and archive features are already implemented in other locations, with more installations in-progress. Most searches return results in under two seconds.

GoHook, with a combined coding and systems analysis experience of over fifty years, is a privately held company in Southern California.
