FTC Settles With D Squared; Pop-Up Advertiser
D Squared, A San Diego based company, will no longer advertise its ad-blocking software by using Internet pop-up ads, to avoid a legal battle with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
A settlement was reached last Wednesday with the FTC; they filed a civil suit against the company last year.
The pop-up advertisements that D Squared uses exploits technology built into Microsoft's Windows software. This function was initially designed for network operators to send system wide messages to employees.
The case against D Squared is one of the first to address intrusive pop-up advertising, which has become a common form of advertising on the Internet, according to usatoday.com. Receive
