Google Prepares To Battle Microsoft In Search Wars
Sources say Google is taking the necessary steps in preparation for its upcoming battle against Microsoft for dominance over the search engine industry.
Back in November of 2003, Google launched its new "deskbar," a free service that installs into the Windows taskbar, allowing users to search Google without having to open a browser window. Danny Sullivan, editor of Search Engine Watch, has described the Google Deskbar as "Google breaking out of the browser."
According to InternetNews.com, the Google Deskbar is Google's response to "Microsoft's browser evolution" and "Google can use every edge it can get." Some experts believe Microsoft will follow in Google's footsteps and include their own MSN search bar in "Longhorn," the next version of Microsoft Windows OS, which is still in its early stages.
It should also be pointed out that Google is not the only search engine to have its own deskbar; Yahoo! and Terra Lycos are also competing with deskbars of their own. Receive
