It's finally happened! Google Webmaster Tools now has the much sought after feature- user administration. This feature was recently added to Webmaster Tools by Google, and now provides site owners to can grant third party access to their Google Webmaster Tools account, quite easily. Now webmasters can give other people access to their Google Webmaster Tools account without giving over username and password details. In fact they need not have to give other admins full control of their site too.

As Google has been quoted, "We hope the addition of Full and Restricted users makes management of your site in Webmaster Tools easier since you can now grant access within a more limited scope to help prevent undesirable or unauthorized changes."

As per the search engine giant, the new administrators will not be required to go thru the verification process in Google Webmaster Tools. This is because the owners of the site can add access for others.

From the Home page click on the "Manage site" drop-down menu. There is a menu option of "Add or remove users." Choose it to get to the new User administration page where you can add or delete up to 100 users. From this page, you can also specify each user's access too. Being a webmaster with owner access, there are two types of access modes you can assign an administrator. These are:

  • "Full Access - Granting a user "Full" permission means that they will be able to view all data and take most actions, such as changing site settings or demoting sitelinks.

  • Restricted Access - When a user's permission is set to "Restricted" they will only have access to view most data, and can take some actions such as using Fetch as Googlebot and configuring message forwarding for their account."

What do you think of this feature? Will it make you feel more secure by being able to monitor the access the webmasters have? Do share your views.
