Change Window Border Color In Windows 7?
I don't want to change my theme, I like my background picture, and I don't want weird buttons or widgets all over my desktop. I just want to change my window frames from boring grey to pink or orange or some other cheery color. Can I do that in Windows 7 or am I stuck applying themes from Microsoft until I find one I like? How To Successfully Create and Implement a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP)
There are a couple of key points people, especially system administrators, should know about disasters: They are always unexpected and they typically bring about a huge case of hindsight. While most people reading this will understand the importance of this, I suspect a lot of them also suffer from something called then invincibility complex. In other words, you understand it can happen, but don't think it will ever happen to you. That thought, however, is what leads some companies, notably smaller IT based businesses, to suffer greatly or even close their doors for good. Of course, it's also possible that you understand the importance but just really don't know where to start. Well, I've got good news. You start here! Directory:

Web Based CRM and Social Media CRM
Choosing a CRM solution is a hugely important decision for any business. Depending on the size and complexity of an organization it can be a big task. Usually the worst thing you can do when looking at any IT system is to start with technologies and solutions. Typically it makes much more sense to spec. out user requirements, find out exactly what you would want from a system and at that stage go out to the market and see what will meet your needs and your budget. The Cost of a Disengaged Employee
I've had a lot of interesting discussions lately around employee collaboration and one of the topics I've been having conversations around is employee engagement. Now before I go into more detail I want to stress that engagement in this case doesn't refer to activity on a platform such as submitting ideas, commenting, sharing status updates or anything else of that nature. That's typically something that some vendors in the industry like to focus on but in my opinion it's wrong. Activity is not the same thing as engagement. In this case engagement refers to employees being passionate about the work they do and the feeling of being connected to the company. So the question becomes, is engagement a fundable business case for employee collaboration? (even though the benefits of employee collaboration extend far beyond just engagement). Directory:

Feds Deciding What To Do With Megaupload Data
Carpathia Hosting, the hosting solutions company that was used to store the data on the former file-sharing site Megaupload, made a statement this week indicating it has been unable to figure out what to do with the Megaupload data on its servers, and is seeking a federal ruling on the matter. The data has been kept in a legal and financial limbo since the site was shut down by authorities in January. Carpathia is still bearing the cost of hosting the data on its servers, yet is unsure of the legal ramifications of deleting it. Directory:

Understanding NoSQL And Its Uses
In college I took a lot of database classes. Relational database design, Advanced database applications relating to RDBMSes, SQL, and PL/SQL. By the time I was done, I thought I was ready. Two months later my boss tells me, "SQL is the past, NoSQL is the FUTURE!" Are you kidding me? So my college credits were for...what exactly? More than that, what is NoSQL? Why is it better or worse than SQL? Without realizing it, I had undertaken a quest. NoSQL was my enemy, the enemy of my knowledge. And to defeat your enemy, you must understand it. Directory:

Is Your Supply Chain Prone to a Hack Attack?
We've all heard of hackers and most of us have experienced at least one or two hits-the trojan that ultimately disables a laptop or those annoying people who steal your email address and send advertisements to your contacts. Although these threats are more annoying than seriously detrimental, these simple scams do show how widespread hacking has become. A supply chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Therefore, supply chain managers need to recognize the reality of hackers and the costly risks they present. Directory:

Thoughts on Mobile Security and Applications
Note: I wrote this for a client last summer who was looking at a banking industry application. The application was poorly written, and I hope that they have since fixed it. It makes an interesting concept that last summer we were talking about banking and smart phones, then to see a number of these issues crop up in the news since then. Mobile phone security is something very important, but we seem to keep on falling by the wayside. There has to be a happy medium between functionality and security, but we keep on missing the mark. Internal Knowledge Markets: A Framework for Success
The quest for uncovering internal knowledge within an organization has been around for a very long time and was one of the early goals of knowledge management. Hind Benbya and Marshall Van Alstyne address this issue again through their MIT Sloan article, How to Find Answers Within Your Company. As they write, the challenge of locating internal knowledge on a specialized topic exists in any large organization. The larger and more segmented the company, the harder it gets to match people to problems. They go on to quite Lewis Platt, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, "If only HP knew what HP knows, we would be three times more productive." I have heard this quote by others CEOs going back to the at least the early 90s. So what do Benbya and Van Alstyne bring that is new to the table? Directory:
