2011 Application Platform Ratings

A Brief History of EXT2, EXT3, and EXT4
In 1992, the first extended file system (EXT) was created especially for Linux, and it has not been immune to changes over the last two decades. The first change to ext happened the following year with the creation of the second extended filesystem (EXT2). Another filesystem (xiafs) was created in parallel with EXT2, but is no longer used due to EXT2's flexibility and longevity.

Maintaining Multiple Servers with Monitoring Software
As an IT guy here at iEntry, I wear a lot of hats (i.e. programmer, system administrator, "my email stopped working" guy, etc.) and with so much going on in a day, it's easy to miss when one server out of 40 or so goes haywire and stops serving web pages. Once installed, I would then begin installing other packages and programs necessary for the system to fulfill its purpose. It was through these installations that I found one common factor between each distro I have installed. None of them come by default with the extremely popular C compiler, GCC.
