Going Beyond Search Engine Ranking For Your Site
SEO used to be all about getting top search engine rankings. While that is still a primary function of an SEO provider, that's not all there is to it anymore. Or, at least... it shouldn't be.

Keeping Your Site Content From Proxy Caching
One of the common SEO questions we see is related to the "Pragma No-Cache" metatag. Many webmasters and site owners may notice this in their source code and assume that it has an effect on search engine rankings, or is keeping Google from indexing pages. In fact, this tag has no effect on search engines, though it is generally unnecessary and can usually be deleted.

Comparing The Differences Between Marketing And Real Customer Value
I was in London a couple weeks ago, and was reminded how I always like the simple phrase that asks you to be careful as you step from the Underground subway car to the platform, "Mind the Gap." But I think marketers need to mind a different gap, the one between the frills of image marketing and real customer value. And guess who is there to teach us that lesson today? The Gap. Yeah, that Gap, the one that sells jeans and other casual clothing in just about every mall near you.

How Important Is Your Startup's Name?
Naming a startup is hard. Very hard. On the one hand, the pragmatic entrepreneur thinks: "I shouldn't be wasting time on this - for every successful company with a great name, there's one with a crappy name that did just fine. It doesn't seem like a name has much influence on the outcome at all. I'm going to get back to writing code." I sort of agree with this. You shouldn't obssess about your name. But, you also shouldn't dismiss it as unimportant. Part of the startup game is to try and remove unnecessary friction to your growth. Sure, you could build a spectacularly successful company despite having a lousy name - but why not stack the odds in your favor?

Kernel Exploits Remind Admins to Update Often
Two exploits, recently documented by Ben Hawkes, affects 64-bit machines that permit execution of 32-bit code on almost all current kernel versions less than 2.6.36-rc4-git2. Configuring your Sudoers File
If you are managing a Unix network, you know that there are things that must be done on a regular basis that require root authentication or user privilege elevation. There are three general options available to you. First, you can be constantly on call from your users, authenticating their commands yourself. This is a good way to lose weight as you will be running around constantly, but not a great way to run a network. Second, you can give out the root password. Ha, ha, ha, I know silly right?

ISPs Targeted in New Bill to Battle Online Piracy
Many internet users in the United States don't realize a lot of the pirated content being accessed is from foreign countries. Being so, means the US government has their hands tied when trying to stop these sites from releasing pirated content. However, a new bill proposed by US Senators Patrick Leahy (D-Vt) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) would give the Department of Justice (DoJ) the power necessary to keep these sites from appearing stateside.
